The NMC provides performance reasons notifications on all 22 governments. Medical College in Karnataka

The National Medical Council (NMC) has not met standard parameters in all government medical colleges of Karnataka, including infrastructure and faculty recruitment.

The state has a total of 22 government medical schools operating, and this is the first time such notice is issued to everyone.

The Ministry of Medical Education (DME) expressed surprise at the Bangalore Medical College and Institute (BMCRI), which has the best infrastructure and is most sought by students.

“For example, NMC shows some ambiguity in the cause notification. For example, it points out that the BMCRI error has the most outpatients in the state has the wrong outpatient department (OPD) number. So, do we have questions whether they have thoroughly checked the OPD number,” said Bl Sujatha Rathod, director of medical education, Bl Sujatha Rathod. ”

NMC regularly asks all medical schools that have valid letters of license (LOP) for admission to medical programs to submit and upload all details and documents on their portal as part of their annual statement. Through a public notice on April 25, the committee also asked the university to provide information about small-scale operational theaters and the main operating theaters.

These notifications are due to the lack of appointments to the faculty and staff of the recently started medical school, mainly in Koppal, Chickballapur, Chitradurga and Chikkamagaluru.

The notice pointed out that the number of hospitalized patients (surgery admission) at the Kaval Official Medical College is small.

It noted that in some medical schools, OPD numbers are insufficient, teaching staff and non-teachers are insufficient, while others are not equipped.

Impact on seat enhancement

There are 3500 MBBS seats in 22 government medical schools. Meanwhile, the state government has proposed a proposal to the NMC to enhance approximately 800 medical seats in 2025-26. However, after notification, questions will be made as to whether the proposal will be cleared.

“Most universities have responded to NMC’s performance reasons notifications and have appropriate documentation. NMC has not answered for enhancements regarding seat enhancements. However, I have made it clear that these indicate that the cause notifications will not have any impact on enhancements in medical seats. This may be unsatisfactory if the university’s response to the notification is unsatisfactory.

In 2024-25, the NMC imposed a fine of approximately Rs 2 million to Rs 15 million on 16 government medical schools.

Speech Hindus, Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil said: “All government medical schools in the state have good infrastructure and good equipment. However, the shortage of faculty and staff in medical schools has begun recently.

He said a proposal has been submitted to the government to recruit faculty and staff from medical schools, and the Ministry of Finance must approve its approval. “In addition, the state government has ceased all recruitment procedures until the state retention implementation procedures are completed within the state. Government medical schools are allowed to recruit other colleges, including senior residents, on contract. Most colleges have completed this recruitment process and responded to NMC’s notices,” the minister added.
