Karnataka: Stone statue owner’s owner’s owner opened fire at protesting villagers, one of them was injured

A stone quarry owner allegedly shot and killed a 38-year-old farmer when a group of villagers protested the construction of a quarry stone transport road in Manchehalli Village on Wednesday.

Ravikumar is a 38-year-old farmer who allegedly suffered a leg injury and collapsed. Sacklesh allegedly escaped and was taken to hospital.

Manchesterhalli and farmers from the Environmental Protection Commission opposed the construction of a road transport quarry for trucks, accusing it of causing water and air pollution and affecting feed and crops due to dust.

Chickaballapur rural police later arrested Saklesh and seized the weapon. He was charged with murder, illegal assembly, riots, voluntary injury and under the Weapons Act, police officer Kushal Chowksey said.

Officials added that police officers have been deployed to ensure the village’s laws and orders.
