Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas, believed to be the oldest person in the world, died on April 30, 2025 at the age of 115. Her death was confirmed by Longeviquest and the Geriatric Research Group (GRG), which monitors life span records for life spans around the world.
Inah was born on May 27, 1908, and although the official record lists her date of birth as June 8, Inah devotes most of her time to faith and education. She joined the congregation of the Tyres sisters in 1934 at the age of 26 and became a respected figure in the religious and educational community of Brazil.
Although the Ina sisters are still a vulnerable child, the sister continues to live a long and influential life. She served as a teacher, educating generations of students, including João Figueiredo, and later became Brazil’s last military president. She also promotes music at school and is an avid supporter of the Sports Club International Club, a soccer club based in Porto.
The nun is admired for his discipline, kindness and deep spirituality. On her 110th birthday, she received the blessing of Pope Francis, a gesture that deeply moved her. When asked about her secret to longevity, the Ina sisters modestly praised her faith in God, saying, “He is the secret of life. He is the secret of everything.”
After her death, the Sports Club International Club paid tribute to her, calling her a “Colorado fan” who was committed to her kindness, faith and love for the People’s Club.
With the death of Inah, 115-year-old Ethel Caterham from the UK is now considered the oldest man in the world. Born in 1909, Caterham has experienced huge moments in history and attributed her longevity to avoiding stress and doing what she loves.
