The reaction of tech Mahindra when Gujarat technicians were detained in Qatar for data theft. This is what the company says

Tech Mahindra said they are “ensure the well-being of Amit Gupta, an employee detained in Qatar, allegedly suspected of stolen data. Amit Gupta, a senior employee of IT company Tech Mahindra, whose mother Pushpa Gupta was detained by the Katari authorities on January 1.

The exact allegations against Amit Gupta are still not made public.

Tech Mahindra’s Amit Gupta is detained in Qatar

In detention, Gujarat Techie, Amit Gupta was the regional head of Tech Mahindra – Katar and Kuwait. According to his LinkedIn profile, Amit Gupta has had a relationship with the company for nearly 12 years.

Amit Gupta was reportedly detained in Qatar for stealing data. However, his family said he was innocent and was wrongly accused. Amit Gupta’s father said tech Mahindra employees were detained by the security of Qatar’s National Security (Catar).

Family denies wrongdoing against Amit Gupta

During the media interaction, Amit Gupta’s mother said their son was innocent and was wrongly accused. The mother also claimed that Amit Gupta was detained on January 1 and was detained for 48 hours without food or water.

After 48 hours of detention, Amit Gupta was allegedly locked in a room. “It’s been three months now,” Amit Gupta’s mother told reporters.

Pushpa Gupta said they received a five-minute call from Amit Gupta every Wednesday, the only contact they had with their son. My parents went to my Doha for a month. During this time, they were allowed to meet Amit Gupta for half an hour.

Tech Mahindra responds to Amit Gupta’s detention

In with NDTVTech Mahindra told the company is still in “close contact with their family and provide them with the necessary support”.

Tech Mahindra also said they are actively coordinating with Indian and Qatari authorities “and comply with due process.”

“Ensure the well-being of our colleagues (Amit Gupta) is our top priority,” Tech Mahindra added.

India supports Amit Gupta

People familiar with the development say Delhi: Indian authorities are providing Amit Gupta with all possible help, The Indian era Report.

The people said on anonymous that the Indian Embassy in Qatar realized that the Katari authorities had detained Techie Amit Gupta of Gujarat for ongoing investigations.

“Our embassy continues to provide all possible assistance in this matter and follows the case closely,” said one of the people.

The people said the embassy was in contact with Gupta’s family, representing him and lawyers from the Katari authorities.

The mother of Tech Mahindra employee Amit Gupta also informed her that she had gone to Qatar and met an Indian ambassador there. She quoted the envoy as saying that so far, it has been related to Gupta’s case.

This is the second instance of Indians being detained in Qatar since 2022. Previously, eight former Indian Navy personnel were detained in 2022 and sentenced to death in 2023, but their sentence was ordered by the Kathari court and Emir after being sentenced in February 2024.
