Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized “creative responsibility” on Waves Summit on Thursday (May 1, 2025), saying we need to save the younger generation from some anti-human ideas. “When the world is looking for new ways to tell stories, it is time to create ‘create in India, create the world’,” he said.

The Prime Minister held the opening ceremony of the World Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, calling it a transformative platform that unites creators, storytellers, innovators and policymakers.

In a keynote speech about global representatives from up to 30 countries, Mr. Modi said: “Today, artists, innovators, investors and policymakers from over 100 countries are gathered under one roof. We lay the foundation for global talent and creativity. Waves belongs to every global platform, and belongs to every artist and creator and creator and creator.”

The summit is themed “Connecting Creators, Connecting Nations Connecting” and aims to establish India as a central hub in the global creative economy. Integrating cinemas, streaming platforms, animation, games, immersive technology (AVGC-XR), artificial intelligence, etc., Waves 2025 is eager to provide $50 billion in opportunities to the Indian media and entertainment sector in 2029.

Reflecting on India’s growing cultural influence, PM Modi said: “In recent years, Indian films have successfully carried the spirit of India to the farthest corners of the world. These milestones will speak out from Raj Kapoor’s legacy in Russia to Satyajit Ray’s glory in Cannes, to rrr’s victory in Oscars.”

“112 years ago, on May 3, 1913, the first feature film Raja Harishchandra was released. DadadahebPhalke was its creator. It was his birth anniversary yesterday. In the past 100 years, Indian cinemas have gone to the location. ArRahman, Ritwik Ghatak, Ritwik Ghatak, Ritwik Ghatak, Ritwik Ghatak, Ritwik Ghatak, and in the years in India, people have been getting a lineup on GAM. Whenever I encounter your thoughts first moments,” he continued.

“The future will start the Inspur Award. India is eager to be the third largest economy. Our journey to Viksit Bharat is just beginning.

“Our stories have science, novels, courage. Our treasure basket is very rich and diverse. The biggest responsibility of the waves is to keep it in front of people in the world. We have turned the Padma Award into a prize for people. We identify people who work in remote corners of the country. Here, global content will be respected. I want to give everyone outside here that you will be in the orange of India, put it in the orange of India.

“Even if the screen sizes get smaller, the scope becomes unlimited,” he added. The summit aims to position India as a global hub for media, entertainment and digital innovation by bringing together creators, startups, industry leaders and policymakers from around the world.

The highlight of Waves 2025 is the first Global Media Dialogue (GMD), which brings together ministers and VIPs from 25 countries to discuss cross-border cooperation in the creative industry.

The event also includes Waves Bazaar, a vibrant digital marketplace that houses over 6,100 buyers, 5,200 sellers and 2,100 creative projects, offering huge network and business potential.
