The Supreme Court issued a notice to the coalition government on Tuesday (May 13, 2025) a petition that questioned the “long-term internship” students whose medical research abroad was interrupted by the war and the pandemic must be accepted in India.

The judge led by Justice Br Gavai decided to receive a response from the government to the petition filed by the association of doctors and medical students represented by Zulfiker Ali PS, who argued that the students unfortunately had to escape the war and the pandemic and return to India and return to India, where, throughout the period, one of their classes was charged for Rs 5,000 for two years.

“These medical students from foreign universities have joined the course in 2016 and 2017. Under normal circumstances, their courses will end in 2022 and 2023, respectively. If they graduate in the normal course, students who join the medical program in 2016 will begin medical practice in late 2022 or early 2023,” the petition said.

Similarly, students who join the course in 2017 will also start medical practices by the end of 2023 or early 2024.

The petition states: “The pandemic and/or the Russian-Ukrainian war interrupted their education and they have lost more than a year to complete the course.”

The petition says that students must leave offline medical research abroad, but completed the course through online courses supplemented with offline practice and clinical training.

The petition holds that circulars and public notices on the need for additional internships and monthly civilian costs contradict the regulations under the National Medical Commission Act.
