Security measures for Roasi, Jammu and Kashmir have been strengthened, visiting the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on April 19 for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity (ED/IP), the Railway Commission, said the 272-km extension, including the 119-km tunnel, is a key development in connectivity in the region.
“It is a dream for every Indian to run the train to Kashmir. We have done a long time to prepare for this and now this USBRL part is ready.”
He added: “There are 119 km of tunnels in this 272 km area. The entire area is very important for the religious, tourism and connectivity needs of Kashmir.”
He further mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start the USBRL project on April 19.
He further noted that on the day of the inauguration, two Vande Bharat Express trains will begin service, one running from Srinagar and the other from Katra to Srinagar. “On the day of the project’s start, we plan to run two Vande Bharat Express trains. One Vande Bharat Express train will run from Srinagar and the other will run from Katra to Srinagar.”
On January 23, Indian Railways conducted a test of the first Vande Bharat train from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra train station to Srinagar train station. The train will cross the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-TV railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the world’s tallest railway bridge. The train was designed for the cold climate conditions of the Kashmir Valley.
