The Swedish Trade Commissioner said India-EU FTA is expected to take effect this year.

Indore, April 15 (PTI) Sofia Högman, Sweden’s trade and investment commissioner, said on Tuesday that she expects the proposed free trade agreement (EU) between India and the EU to come into effect this year.
Hogman stressed that the agreement would open up new doors to increase bilateral partnerships between India and Sweden.
India and the EU are discussing free trade agreements in a phased manner. The two sides completed the 10th round of negotiations in a proposed agreement held in Brussels last month. The next round of talks is expected to be held in New Delhi in May.
Trade experts believe that it is important to strengthen economic relations between India and the EU, given the high tariff policy of U.S. President Donald Trump. Sweden is one of the 27 countries related to the EU.
Sweden’s trade commissioner Högman, speaking with reporters at the event, said a delegation led by European Commission President Ursula von von der Leyen visited India in late February and dialogue between India and the EU has intensified on this year’s free trade agreement.
She said: “If we talk about what is happening in the world today, of course, we hope and ambitious that the (proposed) free trade agreement between the EU and India will be reached during the year. Of course, the agreement will promote more of the great cooperation we have achieved between Sweden and India.
Högman answered a question about the impact of the new US tariff policy on bilateral cooperation between India and Sweden in the field of green technology.
