There are no green canopies in traffic signals this summer

Hyderabad: The hot sun will not be relieved this summer when traffic lights stop among motorists in Hyderabad. The green mesh canopy that Hyderabad police and GHMC usually install at the main junction of April each year has been shelved for 2025.
Traffic police officials confirmed they “did not take any such initiative this year.” Senior GHMC officials added that the Regional Commissioner is based on safety and responsibility concerns. He noted that these structures would cross the main lane and, if failed, could cause “adverse events.”
Launched in April 2018 and was praised by commuters – unless in 2020, when the lockdown left the road empty, so during a three-minute long red light wait, Canopies protected motorists from direct sunlight. With the daytime temperatures already exceeding 40°C, many people now stop behind the line, stand under the remaining trees, or seek coverage under overpasses and subway pillars. “When the bike moves, the breeze helps,” said one motorcycle rider. “People standing in the sun are hurting.”
The southwest monsoon was not expected until late May, which left motorists enduring weeks of unfiltered summer glare.
