The incident occurred at around 6pm on Saturday, during the Madduramma Temple Festival.

A tragic event occurred during a festival in Anekal, a countryside of Bangalore, when a 100-foot chariot fell. Police said Saturday that one person died and about four people were injured during the Maderama Temple Festival. As reported by CK Baba of Bangalore Rural Police (SP), the incident occurred around 6pm on Saturday. “A 100-foot chariot fell during a festival in Anekal, rural Bengaluru Rural said. One died and the other was in hospital for treatment,” said SP Bengaluru Rural. Video of the incident also surfaced on social media. Reports show that severe weather, including heavy rain and strong winds, reportedly caused the accident.

When strong winds and heavy rains cause it to lose balance and hit the ground, the devotees dragged a large number of chariots towards the temple. A similar incident occurred last year when a chariot was overturned at the same music festival, damageing several parked vehicles, although no casualties were reported in this case.
