1. Suhas Shetty Murder: Dakshina Kannada Police imposes ban when VHP demands Bandh

On the evening of May 1, after the murder of 30-year-old murder and former Bajrang Dal activist Suhas Shetty, Vishwa Hindu Diocese (VHP) called on Bandh to solicit Bandh in Dakshina Kannada district on May 2.

After the channel phone call, all city buses left the road. There are reports of two buses near the Pumpwell junction and one bus in Mulky. While most shops and commercial venues remain closed, Hindu activists have also been seen forcing shop owners to get out. Autorickshaws is not on the way either.

Suhas Shetty (30) is a former member of the Bajrang Dal Go Raksha Division, who was hacked to death by a group of six people in front of a row of shops in Kinnipadavu near Bajpe. Shetty is the primary defendant in the murder of Mohammed Fazil in Surathkal on July 28, 2022. Fazil's murder comes two days after BJP leader Praveen Nettaru's murder in Sullia.

Meanwhile, Hiriyadka police arrested Sandesh, 31, and Sushant, 32, allegedly attempting to live in the Autorickshaw driver Aboobacker in Athrady near Manipal, Udupi District. SP K. Arun said in a video statement that the arrested told police that the driver's lifelong attempt was to “seek revenge” to murder Suhas Shetty.

2. Karnataka Level 10 SSLC Exam Score announced that 22 students scored 625/625 points

The results of Karnataka SSLC Level 10 Exam 1 were announced on May 2, 2025. Twenty-two students scored 625/625, making it the best score in the state. After the results were announced, Minister of School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa addressed media people in Bangalore.

In Exam 1, performance has improved by 9% this year. The overall pass percentage this year, including repeaters and private candidates, was 62.34, compared with 53% last year. Up to 22 students scored 625 points. This year, a total of 8,42,173 students took the exam, of which 5,24,984 managed to clear the exam.

3. Karnataka HC dismissed CT Ravi's petition against FIR filed by Laxmi Hebbalkar on alleged derogatory remarks

The Karnataka High Court refused to file a criminal lawsuit against CT Ravi of BJP MLC, the allegation against the derogatory term laxmi Hebbalkar, Minister of Women and Child Welfare, in December 2024 in the Legislative Council of Bellagarve.

“What is suspected of saying, if it is said, or made to women, the complainant is certainly outrageous modesty; most importantly, most importantly, nothing to do with the operation of the Legislative Council or with the business dealings of the House of Representatives,” the court observed on May 2. ”

4. On-site allocators in Bangalore are shocked by steep property tax rate hikes in certain BDA layouts

The live allocators of the NADAPRABHU KEMPEGOWDA layout (NPKL) were shocked to find that property taxes in 2025-26 have reached a huge increase in the range of 9% and 50%, and they only realized this when they went to the BDA website to pay their taxes recently. Although field allocations for other BDA layouts also report edge hiking, it seems to be steeper in the NPKL.

Senior BDA officials said if there is a significant escalation in the guidance value in the area, the agency calculates property tax based on the guidance value and property tax will increase. The guidance value of real estate in Bangalore was revised on October 1, 2023, but property taxes have not changed in 2024-25 due to the Lok Sabha election. Sources said the current fiscal year has now been completed.
