1. Karnataka High Court directs union government to block proton mail in Switzerland in India
The Karnataka High Court has directed the trade union government to initiate legal proceedings under the Information Technology Act 2000 (IT) Act to block India’s proton mail. On April 29, Justice Nagaprasanna issued instructions while allowing the petition filed by M. Moser Design Associates India Private Limited in Bangalore.
The petitioner company has directed the High Court to demand that the government take legal action against Swiss Proton AG, which is based on an international agreement that states that Proton’s servers are located outside India and therefore provides Proton Mail Services, thus claiming that it is not subject to Indian law.
2. 50-year-old Pourakarmika was killed by a speeding truck in Bangalore
A 50-year-old Pourakarmika was hit by a speeding truck while working on April 29. The deceased Saroja worked in the ward of Shivanagar No. 107 with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). She was supposed to be a permanent employee of the civic group on Thursday (May 1, 2025).
Saroja went to the ward office to report work at about 6.30 am. As she tried to cross the busy west of Chord Road in Dhobi Ghat Signal, a truck moving forward at traffic signals knocked her down. She walked under the wheel on the front left, causing serious head injuries. The doctor at Victoria Hospital declared her “death”.
3. 19 people booked under the “mob lynching” clause of BNS near Mangaluru
Mangaluru police cited Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita’s rules on “mob lynching” against 19 men, allegedly attacking a man who died in Kudupu on April 27 under the restrictions of the Mangaluru rural police station. When a case was registered with 19 people, at least 25 people participated in the Assault.
Although police registered an unnatural death case on April 27 in suspicious circumstances, the autopsy report confirmed that the death was due to internal harm caused by multiple strong blows, shock and unutilized immediate medical attention, which they converted into a “mob lynching” case.
4. Ahinda Group Urges Rahul Gandhi to Warn Congress Legislators Against Caste Census Report
The Ahinda group launched a campaign to send a letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, urging his partisan lawmakers in Karnataka to not oppose the implementation of a report of socio-economic and educational investigations, commonly known as the “caste census”. The investigation was conducted by the Karnataka Backward Class Committee.
Under the Aegis for the Karnataka backward class propaganda forum, the Ahinda group has sent Mr. Gandhi, the head of the opposition in Lok Sabha, to seek his intervention in the matter by email and postcards.
5. NGOs restore 150-year-old Khasbag Mattikop in Bellagarve
The Bellagarve-based PYAAS Foundation handed over the well of a 150-year-old teacher’s colony to the Bellagarve Municipal Corporation (BCC) on April 29. Khasbag Mattikop Well is believed to be historic. The structure of the British era provided drinking water to Tilakwadi, Shahapur and Khasbag. However, over the years, it has been abandoned due to neglect.
The PYAAS Foundation restores the well with CSR support from AKP Ferrocasts and Bemco Hydraulics. It is nearly 30 feet deep and can provide water for up to 1,000 tankers per day. NGOs have occupied plantations around the site.
