We all talk about planting trees, maintaining the environment and working to achieve a greener future, but most of these conversations have not made much impact. However, a small village in Rajasthan has proven that even small steps can have a big impact, and if determined, it may have a greater impact. Piplantri, a small village in Rajasthan, has been living in harmony with nature, with the beauty of its landscape and bringing social and environmental changes. Piplantri has a peculiar tradition that promotes a greener environment and enhances the daughter’s abilities.

Piplantri’s Nature and Daughter Plan

According to tradition, every time a girl is born, 111 seedlings are planted in rural communities. This is a useful exercise for the environment, and as this environment develops and grows, it is also a social awareness of raising girls. But the villagers not only leave the saplings to themselves, but also take on the responsibility of raising them with their daughters and take care of them like their own children. This fills them with a profound connection between the growth of the environment, as it is the basis of life on Earth, where people nurture human life.

This inclusive approach to protecting the environment and gender equality has changed the fate of this village and has become an outstanding example of sustainable living and social progress.

How a person changes the fate of Piplantri

This is not always the case in villages. It used to be a socially backward village where female murderous agents and infanticides were common. However, with a strong vision, one person changes everything. Shyam Sunder Paliwal is a social activist in the village of Piplantri, and former Sarpanch proposed the plan and they supported the villagers when they realized it would be useful to their daughter. The girl’s parents, grandparents and relatives began planting seedlings. The entire community comes to help the family take care of the seedlings.

Sunder Paliwal convinces women to self-help groups, older ladies, grandmothers and other women by talking with them about girls’ safety and empowerment. They also came in to help families cultivate saplings under Kiran Nidhi Yojna, which began with Paliwal. The villagers soon began to realize that if they were to take care of the seedlings and their daughters, they would not have to worry about the dowry when they reached the age of marriage, because the trees would take care of her expenses at that time.
