Kodak area police arrested three people, including a woman, in connection with the murder of Sampath, a contractor in Kusarnagar whose body was found in the Vanaguru Forest area of Sakleshpur Taluk in Hassan district.
Sampath Alias Shambu, who borrowed a car from a friend John Paul, on May 9, turned off his phone when he did not return to his phone on the evening of May 10, and the Kushalnagar Town Polices filed a complaint of the loss.
However, on the same day, a car was found abandoned in the village of Kallahalli in the Yasalur police station in Sakleshpur Taluk, with blood stains and hair bundles on its seats and inside the car. After investigation, police found the car the same as the one borrowed by the contractor, who disappeared from Kushanagar the day before.
Four days later, on May 14, Sampath was found dead in a forest area near Vanaguru.
After the case was registered, the principal of police officer K. Ramarajan, other principals of police officer BP Dinesh Kumar, other senior police officers visited the crime scene and formed a special investigation team composed of police officers of different departments in the area.
The investigation shows that Sampath, who allegedly had extramarital affairs with the woman, was killed by his friends Kiran, Ganapathi and Kiran’s wife Sangeetha for “personal hatred.”
According to police, Sangeetha lured Sampath to Hanagal Village on May 9.
They then placed the body in Sampath’s car to the village and drove it to the Vanugru Forest area, where they abandoned the body. They then gave up their cars in the nearby Kallahalli Village. To keep it undiscovered, the defendants had arranged another car from Bangalore, and they returned after disposing of the body and abandoning the car.
Police picked up the clue on May 16 and arrested the defendant Kieran on May 16. Police also seized example weapons, including machetes, knives, cars used in clubs and crimes.
Despite efforts to arrest other people who had assisted the defendants in committing crimes and helping them hide, Mr Ramalayan clarified that Sampat, the deceased, was not the same person, and he threw an egg at the car of Chief Minister Sidalamaya about three years ago when he visited Kodakuk as an opposition in the legislative assembly. Police said that although Sampath and Ganapathi were part of the conspiracy, they did not throw eggs at Mr Siddaramaiah’s convoy.
