Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched a severe attack on the central government on Monday (21 April 2025), accusing him of “systematically ignoring” Kerala during a critical period.

Mr Vijayan said in Kalikadavu, Kasaragod that the central government took a “completely negative stance” towards Kerala and refused to expand the necessary support during the crisis, including natural disasters, Nipah, Nipah and Covid-19 Pandepic.

“We expect and deserve the support we deserve. In fact, those who have stepped forward to help us. The center seems to be more interested in seeing Kerala collapse than in assisting in rehabilitation,” he said.

Despite the central indifference, Kerala managed to keep floating and even flourishing due to the “collective will of the people”, he said.

“The unity between citizens and government’s determination has put us in every crisis. The whole world is in awe when we overcome adversity after it,” Vijayan said.

He pointed to tangible development results – the imminent completion of the national highway, the stable progress of coastal and hilly highways and the successful implementation of the Gaelic Pipeline Project.

“Now, inflatable natural gas reaches the house and simplifies social welfare pensions despite financial bottlenecks,” he noted.

Mr Vijayan also stressed that under the lifetime mission, 450,000 houses have been built and nearly 4 lakh deeds of land ownership have been distributed. “Every sector – health, education and agriculture – has witnessed a visible shift,” he said.

Targeting the opposition

However, the Chief Minister targeted the opposition and parts of the media, accusing them of “aligning with the center to stall progress in Kerala”.

“Even today, we are still trying to undermine the progress we have made. But the trust of the people continues to push us forward,” he said.

He also released a book called Navakeralathinte Vijaya Mudragalrecord the development milestones of the government.
