The Tamil Nadu legislative session paid tribute to 26 victims of the terrorist attack on Wednesday (23 April 2025) in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the Anantnag area of ​​Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Minister Stalin spoke in parliament, strongly condemning the attacks against innocent tourists and expressing his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Pahalgam is a popular tourist destination visited by people from India and abroad. The attacks on innocent civilians are very condemning. He said a terrorist group claimed responsibility and had to deal with the outfit with iron hands.

He also said he had ordered a special, all-weather hotline centre in Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi to assist the exchanges of affected people in Tamil Nadu. The permanent commissioner of Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi has been directed to coordinate all relevant work. In addition, the additional collector (development) Aftab Rasool in Pudukkottai District has been directed to arrive in the Pahalgam area for coordination work.

Mr Stalin also recalled previous terrorist attacks, including the 2017 Amanas Yatra attack, which claimed eight lives and the 2019 Pulvama attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. He reiterated that terrorism has no status on Indian soil.

Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, urging the state government to provide medical assistance to Tamil Nadu and take measures to bring them back.

Mlas K. Selvaperunthagai of Congress, R. Arul of PMK, Nainar Nagenthran of BJP, J. Mohammed Sha Navas of VCK, Nagaimaali (T. Ramachandran) of CPI Eswaran of KMDK, Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi T. Velmurugan, M. Jagan Moorthy of Puratchi Bharatham also condemned the attack.
