TN strengthens animal population control measures; upgrades necessary infrastructure

Given the uncontrolled breeding of community dogs reported in the state and the challenges it poses, the Tamil Nadu government has taken many measures to control the population. According to a notice from the Indian Animal Welfare Commission issued last month, the committee is constructed under population control measures.

During a review meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday, the government drafted a multi-pronged approach involving various departments and local agencies to address the threat.

About 500 veterinarians and many of the local objects need training to protect dogs so they can be subject to population control measures. The infrastructure will be upgraded in about 100 veterinary hospitals across the state so that population-controlled surgery for animals can be performed.

A total of 72 houses will be built to allocate abandoned dogs and local bodies will allocate the land needed for those houses. NGOs are going to run these houses.

Dog shelters with facilities with population control measures will be established in various parts of the state. Additional funding allocations will be made to allow private veterinarians to control population control technology at the regional level.

According to a notice issued by the Indian Animal Welfare Commission on April 11 this year, the committee consists of the municipal administration and the water supply secretary to coordinate state-level efforts in animal birth control measures.

The meeting also decided that the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Commission would appoint officers to monitor the implementation of these measures through local agencies at the regional level. Funds must be allocated in this regard.

In addition to the five centers of Greater Chennai Company, 10 animal birth control centers will be established. In addition, Greater Chennai will establish 10 veterinary facilities.

Ministers Kn Nehru, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan and Ma. Subramanian; Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam and senior officials were also present.
