Trump’s tariff tantrum: The United States does not include chips, phones, computers with reciprocal tariffs – Economic Times Video

The Trump administration has approved tariff exclusions for imports of smartphones, computers and other electronics, primarily provided by China, making most of President Donald Trump’s steep 125% of his duties spacious. In a shipper notice issued on Friday afternoon (April 11), the U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a list of tariff codes that will be excluded from duties. The number of exclusions was 12:01 am on April 5. The US CBP lists 20 product categories, including all computers, laptops, optical drives and very extensive 8471 codes for automatic data processing. It also includes semiconductor devices, devices, memory chips and flat panel displays. The notice did not explain the Trump administration’s move, but the exclusions provided welcome relief to major U.S. technology companies, including Apple, Dell Technology and countless other importers.
