The Warriors lead 1-0

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets 95-85 in the first game of the first-round playoff series in the Western Conference first-round playoff series at the Toyota Center in Houston on April 20, 2025. The Warriors are now leading 1-0.

The Rockets’ last appearance was in the 2019-20 season, which ended in 2020 due to the scattered bubble playoffs.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 31 points, shooting 12 of 12 from the field and hit nine in three-pointers. He also contributed 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The performance marks his 15th straight playoff game score for at least the 2022 NBA Finals.
The Rockets were led by Alperen West, who scored 26 points in 18 shots. Despite defeating the Warriors 52-36, Houston struggled with shooting, shooting only 39.1% and 20.7% from three-pointers. They also took on 17 mistakes.

The game started with Houston taking a 21-18 lead in the first quarter. However, Golden State responded 29-13 in the second quarter, leading 47-34 at the end of the half. The Rockets narrowed the gap to four points in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors remained the lead to win the game.

The Warriors’ shooting efficiency was supported, with their shooting percentage being 47.4% and 37.5% above the distance arc. Their defense also limits the Rockets’ scoring chances. Game 2 of the series is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the Toyota Center in Houston, and the Rockets aim to improve their shooting and reduce their turnovers, or even reduce the series.
