“Torture” Detained: J&K High Court directed police to submit their report

Jamu and Kashmir High Court have sought a compact disc (CD) report from J&K police on the death of 26-year-old Makhan Din, who allegedly committed suicide after being tortured in the Billawar district of Kathua in February.
According to a lawyer representing the victim’s father, Mohammad Mure, the victim’s wife, Juna Begum, and Supreme Court Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, called for an investigative officer to make a personal appearance by investigative officers from the Billawar Police Department.
The lawyer said the victim’s family had moved to the court to seek the investigation to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation in order to “in order to conduct the investigation in a fair and impartial manner.”
Din, a tribe’s video that was all the rage on social media on February 5, 2025, “clearly stated that he had been tortured throughout the night during police detention at the Billawar Police Department to force him to admit his connection with the militants”, on the hills of Billawar, his bond.
“After bringing the Quran to his head, the deceased swears that he is innocent and has no connection with the militants, and says that he did admit his connection to subversive activities due to excessive torture. Din said on camera that he did not face torture again and that his life could not stand some toxic drugs.
Katua police had refuted and named it DIN as a ground worker.
In addition to making the ruling, Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar ordered a departmental investigation. Reports for both queries have not been submitted.
Advocate Salathia told the court that the case was registered in the case on February 9, 2025, but “no names of the cruelly tortured Din and his father’s police officers have been mentioned.”
“The lawsuit filed by police station Billawar in Sub-Gudge Court (Special Mobile Magistrate) Kathua gave the defendant/suspect involved in the case,” Saratia said. “The Billwar police station is not expected to conduct a fair investigation, where Deer and his father were brutally tortured.”
