Chilean President Gabriel Boric had an interesting exchange with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a state visit to India on April 1, 2025, about the importance of Ashoka Chakra to the Indian flag. The conversation took place at the Hyderabad House in Delhi, where the two leaders met.
The video of the exchange was soon all the rage on social media, showing him and Modi stopping near the Indian flag as they left the door. Boric pointed to the Ashoka chakra in the center of the flag and asked about Modi’s meaning. Modi responded by explaining the meaning of the symbol, which is a navy blue wheel with 24 spokes. Ashoka Chakra is adapted from the capital of Ashoka in Sarnath, the lion, symbolizing the progress, responsibilities and various other values that India has.

Earlier in the day, President Boric visited the Mahatma Gandhi memorial Rajghat, where he provided flower contributions to the leaders of the Indian independence movement. The Foreign Ministry shared the moment on social media, highlighting Borich’s respect for Gandhi’s message of peace and nonviolence. Gestures remind people of Gandhi’s ideal enduring heritage that continues to inspire the world.
During his visit, Boric stressed the importance of strengthening relations between India and Chile. He called the visit a “important moment” and emphasized common growth opportunities, especially in areas such as agribusiness, innovation and creative industries. Boric also stated that more multilateral cooperation is needed in today’s global context.
The visit will last until April 5, 2025, aims to deepen economic, political and cultural ties between the two countries. Earlier in the day, President Policy’s meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar marked the beginning of negotiations, with both sides expressing optimism about strengthening long-term cooperation.
