IMD predicts heavy rain and thunderstorms in Delhi today, with the lowest temperature…

Warnings follow record-breaking high heels on Friday morning rainfall, Safdarjung, the main weather station in Delhi – raining 77mm in just six hours between 2:30 AM and 8:30 AM.

Delhi woke up and the weather had a huge change on Friday morning as thunderstorms and heavy rains swept across the city, causing disruption. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alarm to Delhi on Saturday, May 3, 2025 warning of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Some areas may also experience strong winds up to 40 km/h, very light rainfall, and usually cloudy skies.

More cloudy skies are expected next week and opportunities for rain or thunderstorms. The temperature range is expected to be between 21 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall in Delhi was recorded at 78 mm until 8:30 am, the second highest in 24 hours since 1901, after 119.3 mm on May 20, 2021.

According to the IMD, moisture and wind convergence from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal regions, resulting in heavy rainfall, assisted by a sustained highly favorable weather pattern at lower and central troposphere levels. The highest rainfall recorded since 1901 was 119.3 mm at SFD Airport on May 20, 2021. According to the IMD, it is related to the movement of the residue of the “Dow” cyclone crossing the coast of Gujarat.

Heavy rain immediately caused the temperature to drop to 7 to 10 degrees. Sudden rainfall caused heavy bushes, causing traffic congestion in parts of Delhi, and places such as Gurugram, Delhi Airport and Minto Road were severely flooded, causing serious inconvenience to the public. This sudden change in weather conditions puts people in huge challenges.

IMD issued a red alert on Friday, advising residents to take additional precautions and stay safe.

People are urged to plan their trip carefully, stay indoors in bad weather, and follow official updates. While cool weather is a welcome break for the hot summer months, it also reminds the speed of changes in conditions.
