Trinamool Congress leadership has communicated to the coalition government that party MP Yusuf Pathan or any other party MPs will not be part of a multi-party delegation visiting various countries to oppose cross-border terrorism in Pakistan.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leads the center’s government nomination Baharampur MP Yusuf Pathan is the only member of the MP to become part of the entire party delegation.

In the general election last year, Mr. Patan, a cricketer-turned politician, was elected Lok Sabha. He defeated MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury five times from the constituency located in the Mehdabad region.

Sources from the ruling party in West Bengal said the leadership of the Trinam Congress did not send a message about electing MPs as part of a delegation to visit other countries and conveying India’s message in the war on terrorism. The party was dissatisfied with the fact that several senior MPs of the party, including the party’s leaders, were left out by the center in different identities from the parliament.

However, Trinamool Congress has promised “to take any action against the Union Government to protect our great nation”

“Our armed forces make our country proud and we are forever grateful to them. Foreign policy falls entirely in the realm of the Union Government. Therefore, it is only the Union Government that decides our foreign policy and is responsible for it.”

Trinamool Congress Secretary-General Abhishek Banerjee reiterated the party’s position on Monday (May 19, 2025) and welcomed the move to send all party delegations. However, he added that when the BJP-led trade union government cannot decide who to send to non-BJP parties, it is part of a party-wide delegation.

Mr Banerjee said: “The Centre or the union government cannot unilaterally decide who will start from which party. The Centre should show good intentions and call for a broader review of the opposition parties.”

Trinamool leader observed that Trinamool did not politicize the issue, saying development should not be viewed as a boycott of Trinamool. “It shouldn’t be seen as if we opted out of the delegation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also fully supported the coalition government after Operation Sindor and said she was “shoulder side by side with the coalition government in the war on terror”.

Trinamool Congress leaders also organized events across the state on May 16 and 17 to support the country’s armed forces and pay tribute to soldiers who have given their lives during the recent India-Pakistan conflict. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya is the second public representative of West Bengal nominated by the Union Government and becomes part of the international delegation.
