Tripura induces 332 women police officers in primary recruitment drive

In a vigorous push to promote women’s empowerment and strengthen law enforcement, the Tripura government has recruited 975 police officers, including 332 women, as described by the largest female personnel official in the state’s history.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha handed over the appointment letter at a function held on Tuesday (May 13, 2025), which was attended by senior police and civil government officials. Inclusion of 332 women in the latest recruitment is seen as a step in diversifying the state’s police force and promoting gender representation.

Dr. Saha said of the gathering that crime rates in the state have dropped significantly in recent years. He stressed that the government is now prioritizing Nesha Mukt Tripura (Not toxic Tripura) aligns recruitment drives with broader efforts to curb anesthesia-related social crime.

“The government is not only focused on human resources, but also actively develops the necessary infrastructure to support our policing and social goals,” he said.

However, the Chief Minister’s claims on lower crime rates are often challenged by opposition parties including CPI(M) and Congress. Both sides have claimed on many occasions that the state’s deteriorated legal and order situation has raised concerns about the deteriorating government narrative and used alternative data and accounts to counter the government’s narrative.
