Police arrested a van driver on Tuesday who mined sand from dry riverbeds in Palar in the village of Sakkaramallur, near the town of Ranipet Arcot.
During the tip, a police team intercepted C. Vijayakumar, 34, near Cheyyar Main Road. He was driving, full of river sand, and accelerated the vehicle as he saw the police. After a brief chase, the police caught him and placed him in the central prison in Vellore
