Truck driver sentenced to 10 years for killing a bicycle rider

Karimnagar: A 37-year-old truck driver was sentenced to 10 years in strict jail by the District Court and sentenced Rs 20,500 in a drunk and driving case, which resulted in the death of a motorcycle driver in Jaghti area.

According to police, the incident occurred on February 1, 2022. The victim, Sanketh, returned to Ekalavya Nagar’s home from a two-wheeler at Metpally Bus Depot. While he was riding, a speeding van (AP 25T 6877) driven by Sheikh Ishaq of Nizamabad area hit him from behind. Ishaq was found to be affected by alcohol and drove recklessly. Sanketh suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.

A case was registered with the Metpally Police after the victim’s father Rajasekhar filed a complaint. At the time, Deputy Inspector Sudhakar investigated the matter and filed charges against the defendant.

During the trial, court officer Ranjith and CMS officer Kiran Kumar introduced the main witnesses. Assistant Attorney K. Mallesham defended the prosecution.

After examining all the evidence and hearing witnesses, the additional conference judge, Judge S. Narayana, sentenced the defendant to a strict imprisonment of 10 years and a fine.
