IIM Shillong held its 16th convening to celebrate 475 graduates and highlighted the vision of “Viksit Bharat”

IIM Shillong celebrated its 16th annual meeting on Friday. The ceremony witnessed the degree of 475 graduates, including 381 in the 2023–25 batch.

There are approximately 54 executives with postgraduate courses (PGPEX) 2024–25 batches and 35 staff staff plan (PGPWE) 2023–25 batches. In addition, five scholars were awarded a PhD in Philosophy (PHD) degree.

Shishir Kumar Bajoria, chairman of the board of directors of IIM Shillong, extends her heartfelt congratulations to the students who are about to graduate and their families. He acknowledged their dedication, perseverance and hard work throughout their academic journey. He refers to the graduation costume made by locally produced “Ryndia” Eri Silk and was awarded the Geographical Instruction (GI) label – which he notes, symbolizes the resilience and cultural richness of the Northeast. He further urged graduates to assume social responsibility, uphold national values, and become active contributors to the realization of Viksit Bharat @2047’s vision.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma published the convening address, praising India’s resilience and rapidly growing economy. He stressed that despite global challenges such as the recession, India is still drawing a path to strong growth, driven by transformative initiatives such as Digital India. He called India a “country of ten years” and encouraged graduates to use their education to make national progress. “You are one of the most promising stages of India’s development. With determination and skill, you can make lasting positive impacts.”

Honeywell India President Ashish Modi congratulated all graduates and shared five important life lessons. First, he encourages students to stay hungry and work hard, assuring them that success will follow. Secondly, he stressed the importance of speaking out and advised students not to be passengers in their lives. Third, he urged them to strive to do their best in whatever they choose to do. Fourth, he emphasized the key role of effective communication in professional and personal growth. Finally, he stressed the importance of health – both physically and mentally – as the basis for realizing life and career.


Professor DP Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, introduced the Institute’s annual report. He spoke about the progress made in the 2024-25 school year, highlighting the Institute’s growing international activities and local impact. He noted that 31 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUS) were signed with leading global regulatory bodies and the upcoming Integrated In Management Program (IPM). He further highlighted the unique position of IIM Shillong as an institution that unites global best practices with the rich cultural spirit of India.
