When Fox News reporters asked about the rebound of the photo he received from Catholics about the photo (NFL) in the Oval Office announcement, Trump replied: “You mean they can't joke? You're not saying Catholics, you mean fake news media. Catholics love it.
According to the Associated Press, the post was reportedly a topic of several issues during the Vatican’s daily conference briefing, which local media called offensive.
On Friday, JD Vance, a practicing Catholic vice president, also defended the photo and responded to former Chief of Staff, Bill Kristol vice president Dan Quayle, who asked on X: “Hey, @jdvance, are you good about this picture you disrespect and laugh at this Holy Father?”
Vance replied, “As a general rule, I’m good at telling jokes rather than starting a stupid war to kill thousands of my fellow countrymen.”

In a follow-up question, the same reporter asked Trump on Monday: “The image of the pope is placed on the White House account, which almost weakens the essence of the official White House account?”
The president replied, “Please take a break. It's great. You have to have a little fun, don't you?”
Trump faces criticism
The New York Catholic Congress accused Trump of mocking faith. The New York State Catholic Conference, representing the Bishop of New York, criticized X.
“There is nothing clever or interesting about this image, Mr. President,” the organization wrote.

“We just buried our beloved Pope Francis, and the Cardinal is about to enter a solemn meeting to elect St. Peter's new successor. Don't laugh at us.”
Matteo Renzi, the former Italian Prime Minister of Italy, who is now a senator in Florence, criticized the image in X post, writing: “Offairs believers, insults institutions, and shows that leaders of the right-wing world enjoy the clown around them.”
A group of Republican supporters who do not support the president, “Republicans oppose Trump” wrote in a post on Saturday X: “More than a billion days of Catholics are still mourning the death of the pope, but Trump and his allies see it as an ideal time to laugh at their faith. Absolutely mean.”
