Indian students seeking centre for killing family in Canada, help from the Punjab government to recover the body

The family of a 21-year-old Indian student killed in Canada urged the centre and the Punjab government to bring back the bodies on Saturday (19 April 2025).
Harsimrat Kaur Randhawa died after hitting stray bullets while she was waiting at the bus stop on her way to work. The occupants of the car allegedly fired the gun. She is a student at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. Harsimrat praised Dhunda Village from Goindwal Sahib in Tarntalan District.
Her grandfather Sukhwinder Singh said in Tarn Taran that Harsimrat went to Canada to study two years ago. “We knew from relatives yesterday. She stood on the road and the bullet hit her.”
The family urged two governments to speed up the process of bringing her body back to India. After the news of Harsimrat’s death reached the village, many villagers expressed their grief to their families.
“We are very saddened by the tragic death of Harsimrat Randhawa, an Indian student in Hamilton, Ontario,” the Toronto Consulate General said in a post on Friday. The official added: “According to local police, she was an innocent victim, hit by a wandering bullet in a shooting involving two vehicles. A homicide investigation is currently underway.
“We are in close contact with her family and are expanding all necessary help. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the family that have lost their loved ones,” Hamilton police said in a statement that it received reports of shootings near Hamilton’s Upper James and South Bend Road Street.
When police arrived, they found Randawa had a gunshot wound to the chest. It said she was taken to the hospital but surrendered.
