Trump says that 80% tariffs “seems to be right” in China, but it depends on his trade guru: real-time updates

President Donald Trump said on Friday that tariffs on Chinese goods “seem to be right” as he prepares for weekend talks to curb a representative of the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and chief trade negotiator Jamieson Greer will meet with Switzerland’s Chinese Economic Tsar for negotiations, which may be the first step in resolving their trade dispute.

Since taking office in January, Trump has imposed taxes on imports from China to 145%.
