Trump threatens EU and Canada: “Massive tariffs, far exceed current plans”

U.S. President Donald Trump warned the EU against cooperation with Canada.

Trump said in a post about the Truth Society that if the purpose is to “injure the United States economically”, the two should not work together.

Trump said an alliance against the United States should be established in the EU and Canada, and he will sign “big tariffs” to North American countries and European groups in 27 countries.
“If the EU works with Canada to cause economic damage to the United States, then the massive tariffs will far exceed the current plans to protect the best friends the two countries have ever had!” Trump said.

Trump effect: EU delays tariffs on us

The EU has delayed President Donald Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs, pushing the implementation date to mid-April. This delay provides the EU with additional time to reevaluate what U.S. products are targeted and allows further negotiations.

Initially, the European Commission set a timeline to restore tariffs on US goods worth $4.9 billion starting April 1, followed by additional tariffs on US$18 billion worth of products on April 13. However, European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic pointed out at a hearing in the European Parliament that the EU’s hearing was considering consulting time in the era of comprehensive epochs with syndromes to conquer the expropriation time of both countries. This will also allow more time to continue discussions with U.S. officials. The European Commission confirmed that all countermeasures will now take effect in mid-April.

The first round of countermeasures include imposing a 50% tariff on American bourbon. In retaliation, President Trump warned that if these measures continue, there could be a 200% tariff on EU wine and other alcoholic beverages.

In addition, the Trump administration plans to introduce “reciprocity” tariffs on April 2 as part of its broader strategy to adjust global trade imbalances. Sefcovic noted that negotiations with the U.S. representative had made limited progress, especially his proposal to reduce tariffs on industrial supplies.

Canada – US Trade War

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on March 11 that his administration would maintain tariffs on U.S. goods until the United States shows respect for Canada and reaffirms its commitment to fair trade practices.

Carney’s remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened the serious economic consequences of new tariffs on Canada.

Carney will succeed Justin Trudeau in the coming days, who condemned Trump’s decision to directly attack Canadian workers, families and businesses. He stressed that Canada’s response will be carefully calculated to minimize domestic impacts while minimizing pressure on the U.S. economy.

“Our tariffs will remain the same until the United States expresses respect to us and makes a reliable, reliable commitment to free and fair trade,” Carney said.

Trump’s latest move involves tariffs on importing steel and aluminum from Canada, increasing them from 25% to 50%.

Despite growing concerns about potential downturns and stock market instability, the escalation marks a deepening trade dispute with Canada. In a tweet, Trump also warned that Canada will face “the economic price is so high that it will be read in history books for many years to come!”

Carney’s comments are in response to Canada’s retaliatory tariffs, which hit CAD $30 billion (about $21 billion) and target a range of U.S. products, including orange juice, peanut butter, coffee, appliances, footwear, footwear, cosmetics, motorcycles, and a selection of pulp and paper and paper.

Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre responded to tensions by strengthening Canada’s strength and sovereignty. “Our message to the U.S. government is clear: Don’t mistake our kindness for a strong, proud and sovereign nation, and we will firmly oppose these attacks on the economy and workers,” Poilievre said.
