After MI setbacks, Bond stands as a teenager

Kolkata: The youngest IPL Centurion, Rajasthan Royals teenager sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi may have conducted a reality check with the two-ball ducks of the Mumbai Indians, but Pace-Bowling coach Shane Bond said the 14-year-old said the 14-year-old was given “freedom to express his own things without thoroughly getting tired of it.

Suryavanshi became the youngest hitter in the 35th century against the Gujarat Titans on April 28, but suffered a setback in the next game but faced a Thursday against MI.

“He's kind of like a license to go out and so far he's done a great job with the 14-year-old,” Bond said.

Bond added before clashing with defending champion Kolkata Cavaliers riders: “I don’t think the coaching staff is trying to overcomplicate things with Vaibhav.”

“He missed the last game, but for us, you really don’t want to panic with this young guy.” Bond added that the think tank team focused on reducing the pressure on young batsmen so he could not worry about expressing himself.

“I know (assistant coach) Vikram (Rathour) talks about his game plan and the type of bowlers he's going to face with, and he'll do it again for this game. But, outside of that, he's a pretty little kid, so I'm glad he's able to get out and keep swinging.” Bond said patience is crucial to such a young man.

“He started great, but he would also go through ups and downs. You know, he would fail at times and he would have to learn to deal with someone so young.

“He’s obviously a very talented player, but he’s still a kid, you know. So, he’s learning on the road. We’re going to be really patient with him because you have to be.

“And the other part is just all off-site stuff, traveling, you can't expect a 14-year-old to be a professional.” Bond compared this situation with his own experience as a parent, emphasizing the need to protect young people.

“Like I have a 16-year-old son who is a teenage son, so we just want to teach him what's around him and take care of him, block him from all the traps that the social media stuff and the way he started, but he's a lovely kid, but he's a lovely kid, I really like him, he's quiet.” Bond, 49, added: “And I love his firm determination and confidence. I think he's been very spectacular so far. So, I think the boys are happy with his success and I hope it goes on.” Archer has been “hostile”

Bond supported the England Pacer who once had a season-to-to-to-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be-to-be- “Yes, he's in a great condition. I mean, it's a tough start for him. But now, he plays every game. He gets the continuity of performance every day. He's definitely the best bowler for us,” the former New Zealand pacemaker said.

“I read some statistics the other day… He caused the most shooting percentage and unfortunately the trap fell. So I was very happy with the way he worked. He was always hostile.” Although testing cricket is still a different challenge, Bond believes Archer still makes it a force in the upcoming Indian series if he is selected.

“He's kind of a master in terms of testing cricket. Here you've only played four games. That's a big difference for him to do 20 times a day. But I'm sure he's in England's plan because he could be a devastating bowler.”

Bond said Captain Sanju Samson is still recovering and Sandeep Sharma is excluded. Although the Rajasthan Royals were eliminated after 100 defeats against the Mumbai Indians, Bond urged his players to continue fighting with pride and target.

“To me, whether you compete or not, your chest has an RR badge, it’s about attitude, like wanting to participate, competing, winning, it doesn’t matter whether you compete or not.
