Two women arrested for Rs 750 crore MDMA after multiple trips
In a major breakthrough, Bangalore police arrested two Nigerian women in an attempt to smuggle over 37 kilograms of MDMA, a powerful drug worth about Rs 7.5 crore on the streets. According to police, it is the largest drug transport ever in Karnataka. The two women were arrested on Sunday at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore and were identified as Bamba Fanta, 31, and Abigail Adonis, 30.
The women were arrested after arriving at the airport from Delhi, hiding drugs in handcart bags. During the arrest, police also seized four cell phones, passports and Rs 18,000 in cash from two suspects. These women live in Delhi and are heavily involved in MDMA smuggling MDMAs across India, with air routes being their main means of transportation.
According to Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, the two women have been operating as part of the drug cartel for about 1-2 years. They have travelled several times between cities and records show they have been to Mumbai 37 times in the past year and Bengaluru 22 times, each time smuggling drugs. Police also revealed that Fanta arrived in India on a business visa in 2020, while Adonis has remained in the country since 2016.
The police operation began six months ago when they arrested a man named Haider Ali in Mangaluru, who was found to have 15 grams of MDMA. Further investigation revealed that there was a connection to another Nigerian national named Peter, who was arrested in Bangalore for a 6 kg MDMA. This led to arrests by two women and exposed the extent of drug trafficking networks operated in the area.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter to reveal more members of the cartel and further undermine the illegal drug deal.
