Two people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting at the U.S. Tallahassee Florida State University on Thursday. The shooting occurred near the university’s student union when a 20-year-old opened fire.

CNN reported that two people were killed and five others were injured in a shooting at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday (local time). The shooting occurred near the university’s student union when a 20-year-old student opened fire at the student.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at a press conference that the defendant was later shot dead by police because he “did not comply with the order” and had been taken to the hospital.

Revell added that he does not believe the suspect was fired from officials.

“The suspect was identified as Phoenix Ikner, 20, the son of the Leon County Sheriff Walter A. McNeil said at a meeting.

The suspicious gunman could use his mother’s weapons. Authorities took the pistol back from the person. The university’s student union also found a shotgun and another gun was found in the suspect’s vehicle.

“Unfortunately, her son (the son of the deputy sheriff) could use one of her weapons, which was one of the weapons found on the scene,” McNeill said. “We are continuing to investigate how to use the weapon and other weapons he might also be able to use.”

Florida State University president Richard McCullough called it a “tragic day.”

“We are absolutely sad about the violence that happened on our campus earlier today,” he said in a press conference.

Following the incident, the University announced the cancellation of all courses, events and business operations by Friday. Essential employees are told to contact their supervisor. All sports events scheduled for weekends in Tallahassee have also been cancelled.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had briefed the shooting.

“I’ve introduced the active shooting to Florida State University. I think it’s an active shooter who gives a complete brief introduction to where we are now. It’s a shame. The horrible thing, the horrible thing happened, the likes of such a thing is this, and we’ll talk about more later.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that the administration is “actively monitoring the situation.”

“The president has briefed the shooting at Florida State University and the White House is actively monitoring the situation,” she said.
