The Supreme Court observed that road accidents were on the rise and on Thursday (April 17, 2025) directed states and union territories to develop quick response agreements so that victims can get help immediately.
Justices Abhay Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan also directed the Ministry of Road Transport and the Ministry of Highways to convene meetings of departments concerned with the state and UTS to implement the hours of the driver.

“Road accidents are increasing in our country. The causes may vary. In some cases, victims of road accidents are not immediately available for help. In some cases, victims may not be injured but are trapped in vehicles.”
“We believe that the state government and UTS must work hard to develop quick response programs like every state at the grassroots level,” the bench said.

The Supreme Court granted the states and UT six months to develop a quick response plan.
The order was filed by advocate Kishan Chand Jain, who urged agreements to be developed for road accident victims.
