Unions postpone national strike until July 9

“After the current situation across the country, the Joint Platform has decided to reschedule a national general strike from May 20 to July 9, 2025, against the implementation of labor regulations and other legal requirements for workers, farmers and general people,” it said in a statement after the meeting held Thursday.
It added: “What is addressed is that on May 20, large-scale demonstrations and mobilization should be held at the state capital, regional and industry levels.”
The 10 central trade unions include AITUC, HMS, CITU, INTUC, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC.
According to the statement, a joint platform of the Central Trade Union and the Federation of Independent Departments requires unions across the country to continue preparing for the July 9 general strike and achieved great success.
The union has been asking the government to abolish labor regulations and strengthen the allocation of employment guarantee plans, while increasing the working days from 100 to 200 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Plan and canceling new pension plans.
