Uttam ensures full support for the legal team in the Krishna water dispute

Hyderabad: To strengthen Telangana’s legal status in the Krishna moisture dispute, Minister of Irrigation and Civil Supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy held an extensive review meeting with the Legal and Irrigation Team on Sunday.

The Minister assured that the Telangana government would provide all possible support to the legal team representing the country and asserted that he would personally participate in the lawsuit of the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal II (KWDT-II) and that he would appear to listen as long as it relates to Krishna and Godavari Rivers.

At a meeting held by Jala Soudha in Hyderabad, senior advocates, irrigation officials and legal counsel participated, including Adityanath Das, the Telangana government adviser of the irrigation department.

CS Vaidyanathan, senior legal counsel leading Telangana’s legal team, and other lawyers introduced the minister’s arguments to the minister at a detailed meeting held from April 5 to 6. The discussion covers the core requirements of Telangana, its current legal status, and the upcoming hearings to be held on April 15, 15, 16 and 16 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17 and 17.

A detailed introduction to Telangana’s position on Krishna’s water distribution is given and used to confirm the state’s claims. The legal team outlines how Telangana has historically been deprived of fair share of Krishna waters and how the fork in Andhra Pradesh in 2014 further complicates water allocation.

Given the basin area of Telangana, population and existing irrigation potential, the state’s argument emphasizes the need for fair and just distribution. The Minister actively led the deliberations and provided key insights on the legal and administrative approaches that Trangana should adopt.

He also discussed a broader strategic direction to pursue during the hearing, including asserting Telangana’s rights based on legal, constitutional and technical reasons. Uttam Kumar Reddy stressed that Telangana’s case involves not only statistics, but also justice and the state’s right to develop its irrigation infrastructure without facing arbitrary constraints.

He noted that farmers and irrigated areas have suffered for decades due to skewed water distribution, and said the current Congressional administration is committed to correcting these imbalances.

The Minister also reviewed the logistical arrangements, coordination with the team stationed in Delhi and the documentation and speeches required before KWDT-II. He directed officials to ensure seamless support for legal teams and court work, including data collation, on-site input and legal drafting.

He inquired about the status of the case and appeals pending in various legal forums and directed the department to update them regularly. He assured the law and irrigation team.

Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the Telangana government will no longer be persistent in protecting the state’s interests in interstate water disputes. He expressed confidence in the legal team and officials and emphasized the importance of solidarity, diligence and data-backed arguments in achieving legitimate results for Telangana.
