Uttam urges CWC to allocate water to Palamuru, Sammakka-Sarakka

Hyderabad: Telangana has urged the Central Water Commission (CWC) to speed up the accelerated allocation of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Program (PRLIS) and Sammakka-Sarakka Barrage projects and together with Irrigation Minister N. uttam Kumar Reddy to request 134 TMC feet of water.

At a meeting with New Delhi CWC Chairman Atul Jain on Wednesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana complies with all CWC’s procedures and documentation requirements for the project. First, Uttam Kumar Reddy urged the CWC to immediately allocate 45 TMC ft to Prlis, which can raise 2 TMC ft of water from Krishna every day and provide irrigation and drinking water to the Mahbubnagar, Nagarkarkurnool, Nagarkarkurnool, Vikarabad, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts. The program can use a series of five pumping stations to pump water during flood season for 60 days.

Regarding the Sammakka-Sarakka barrage, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the project requires 44 feet of water from Godavari every year. The 6.94 TMC FT capacity project in Thupakulagudem, Mulugu District is designed to stabilize approximately 555,000 hectares of irrigation and supply water to several villages.

The minister also asked the CWC to assist Telangana in a comprehensive geotechnical and structural review and recommended corrective measures to restore and maintain Sundilla Barrages in Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla Barrages Kaleshwaram Project.

After the meeting, Uttam Kumar Reddy said he also discussed the illegal transfer of the Krishna River Water in Andhra Pradesh and the potential threat to Telangana by the dead of the AP Polavaram project. He said the CWC chairperson responded positively and promised that the committee would take immediate action on the issues discussed on Wednesday.
