Vatican reveals why Pope Francis dies

Vatican City: Pope Francis died of a stroke, causing coma and “irreversible” heart failure, according to a death certificate released by the Vatican on Monday.

The 88-year-old Catholic leader died Monday morning at a five-week hospital and almost succumbed to double pneumonia.

Francis died at 7.35 AM (0535 GMT) in his apartment in Santa Marta, Vatican. The death certificate says he died of “stroke, coma, irreversible heart cycle collapse.”
It added that the Pope has been affected by the previous episode’s acute respiratory failure.

He also suffers from arterial hypertension, multiple bronchodilations and type 2 diabetes – which was not known before.


It was signed by Andrea Arcangeli, director of health at Vatican State University.
