Prasada Rao, a former IAS official and urban governance expert, passed away

Former IAS official and urban governance expert M. Prasada Rao (84) died Wednesday at his residence in Mehdipatnam. In 1964, Rao joined the Andhra Pradesh municipal government department in 1964 and was promoted to IAS official in 1984.
During his tenure, M. Prasada Rao served as a commissioner for various municipalities and served as managing director of Andhra Pradesh Warehouse Company and Andhra Pradesh State Trading Company. He retired in 2001 as Director of the Municipal Administration, but due to his expertise, he continued to contribute to urban governance.
It is worth noting that M. Prasada Rao served as professor and chairman of HUDCO at the MCR HRD Institute, an external expert at Eptri, SPIU, chief consultant to the Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, and a Jawaharlal Nehru Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM).
M. Prasada Rao is remembered for introducing the concept of a citizen charter in the state. He survived by a son and two daughters. Dr. Rao, senior physician at Yashoda Hospitals, is his son-in-law.
