Vedanta entity established the Torrefed Biomass plant in Punjab

Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd (TSPL), a subsidiary of Vedanta Ltd, has established a biomass manufacturing facility near its 1,980MW Thermal Plant in Mansa, Punjab Province. The facility will generate frictional biological cells.

Vedanta said in a statement that it is the largest biomass manufacturing plant in Punjab. Torrified Biomass is an advanced solid biofuel made from biomass or agricultural residues through a thermochemical process. The final product is a biofuel with more energy density than the raw materials.

“The new biomass plant has a capacity of 500 tons per day, converting agricultural stubble into clean, carbon-neutral biological cells, providing a sustainable coal alternative,” the company statement said.

Punjab produces nearly 150-20 million tons of crops each year. Traditionally, most of this is burned in the fields, causing severe seasonal air pollution throughout northern India.

TSPL will reduce its carbon footprint by using biomass in its fuel mixture. During the rice field season, TSPL purchased over 800,000 tons of agricultural stubble, and in this new facility it was converted into approximately 640,000 tons of torredied Bio-Pellets.

Additionally, the company will reduce its daily coal use by 5% by using this carbon-neutral alternative. The statement added that both pathways will have the potential to avoid nearly 2.6 million tons of power generation.

“The commissioning of these biomass plants reflects the collaborative innovations needed to improve air quality in Punjab and neighboring countries. By leveraging agricultural debris in the form of Torrified Bio-Pellets, TSPL significantly reduces coal consumption and promotes environmental compliance with thermal power,” Adarsh Pal Vig Contrusion the Adarsh Pal Vigman Controlly Controlly of Thermal Power in todal Power in of Thermal Pollive.

In addition, TSPL has a total of 450 tons of skyscrapers per day, sourced from open markets and made of debris, and according to the company, the company has created an ecosystem for farmers to transfer their crop stubble to the compensation side rather than burning it, rather than burning it and causing air pollution.

“As one of India’s largest private power generators, this initiative is aligned with our commitment to support the nation’s clean energy roadmap. Although early-stage challenges including technology access, gaps in infrastructure, and limited bio-pellet availability, our focus on enabling a greener transition never wavevered, said Rajinder Singh Ahuja, chief executive-power, Vedanta.

This move by TSPL is in line with the country’s goal of achieving net zero by 2050.
