“Many people will look up to them, they regard them as the Second Prophet, as God. In Belmarsh, they join them with ordinary prisoners – people who commit drug crimes, GBH, with terrorists. This is where the problem lies.

“A new guy comes in and in six months or a year, they have become friends with him – those people have gone from convicted criminals to extremists.”

Sudesh Amman stabbed two people in Streatham in 2020, believed to be one of these young criminals who had been trained to be a terrorist.

In the latest official inspection, 52% of Muslim prisoners said they were restricted by military officers, rather than 26% of Muslims.

The report concluded: “Belmarsh is a competent prison who manages some of the major operational challenges.”

After the Rudakubana attack, major issues raised against Belmarsh’s security regime.

Shadow Attorney General Robert Jenrick described the incident as “the third surprise of security failure in the top security prison.”

He refers to Hashem Abedi threw the boiling oil into three defenders before stabbing it into the quarantine unit in HMP Frankland, Durham County.

Meanwhile, John Mansfield, the murderer who was convicted in HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire last month was killed.
