The U.S. Embassy in India said on Wednesday (March 27, 2025) that it had cancelled about 2,000 visa appointments.
The embassy said in an article on X that the government has zero tolerance for agents and fixed persons who violate policy. “We have zero tolerance for agents and fixed persons who violate our program policies,” the embassy’s statement to X said.
The embassy said this will also suspend the planned privileges of related accounts. “The Indian Consular Team is canceling approximately 2,000 visa appointments made by robots. We have zero tolerance for agents and fixed persons who violate our scheduling policies. Effective immediately, we are canceling these appointments and suspending scheduling privileges for related accounts,” the post has been read.
The embassy further stated that it would continue its anti-fraud efforts. “We have zero tolerance for fraud,” the Post said.
Other visa-related fraud cases have been investigated by the Indian Law Enforcement Agency (ED). ED’s investigation into allegedly involved agents’ visas using forged documents and other unethical means for aspiring people shows that some agents also provided huge sums of funds to visa applicants for commissions to help them convince embassy officials that they could stay in the country.
