WAQF (Amendment) ACT SC Hearing Update: CJI BR Gavai-led bench listens to petitions today for violating WAQF laws

one India’s Chief Justice BR Gavai and Judge Augustine George Masih’s bench plan to hear challenges from the WAQF (Amendment) Act today in the Supreme Court.
The case last happened on May 5 before the special judge of three judges led by former judge Sanjiv Khanna of Chief Justice Gavai.

The May 5 hearing was scheduled to debate in defense to maintain the implementation of the 2025 amendment to the WAQF law, which, according to the petitioner, interfered with the rights of Muslims to manage their own religious affairs and property.
Prior to May 5, judges from Khanna, Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan issued a statement in public court on April 17 that the statement would not change the status of WAQF property nationwide under these amendments. The bench has recorded the statement in an order of April 17.
