WAQF Amendment Supreme Court Hearing Live: Litigation Hearing on Challenging WAQF Law Continues

The Supreme Court yesterday took strong attention to an analogy from the Centre, which supported the inclusion of non-Muslims on the WAQF board and said that through that logic, judges of Hindu judges should not hear defenses related to the WAQF.
Cji Sanjiv Khanna said: “Do you suggest that ethnic minorities, including Muslims, should also be included on the board of directors that manage Hindu religious institutions? Please state it publicly.”
Deputy Attorney General Tushar Mehta defended the provision that if objections to the existence of non-Muslims in the statutory committee were accepted, the current judge would not be able to hear the matter, adding: “If we use that logic, your nobles would not be able to hear the issue.”
CJI shot back and said, “No, sorry, Mr. Mehta, we are not talking about rulings. When we sit here, we lose our religion. We are absolutely secular. For us, one side or the other is the same.”
