A senior police officer said seven people were killed in a gas cylinder explosion in a house in Pathar Pratima, 24 Parganas district in southern West Bengal.
He said a woman was also injured in an explosion in the Pathar Pratima Block in Dholahat village around 9 p.m.

He said the deceased may have come from the same family.
He said police suspected that there were two gas cylinders in the house and the fire spread out.
“The situation is under control and the rescue operation has been completed. The area has been blocked and an investigation is underway,” he said.
Another official said an investigation will also be conducted to determine whether firecrackers were made in the house.
