More than 10,000 women benefit from Muthulakshmi Reddy maternal welfare program in Tiruchi

The Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternal Welfare Program (MRMBS) in the city of Tiruchi benefited as many as 10,064 pregnant women during the 2024-25 period.

Under the scheme, pregnant women who meet nutritional needs are Rs 18,000. The amount includes Rs 14,000 cash in three installments – after the fourth month of pregnancy and the fourth month of delivery, there are Rs 2,000 out of Rs 6,000 out of Rs 2,000 out of Rs 2,000 out of Rs 2,000 out of Rs 2,000 out of the ninth month after three months. The remaining Rs 4,000 are offered as two health kits, each with a value of Rs 2,000 for the third and six months of pregnancy. The kit includes protein mixture, iron syrup, date, ghee and repellent slices.

Strengthen the protocol through nutrition kits to reduce maternal mortality (MMR) and infant mortality (IMR). It is designed to provide the best nutrition for pregnant and breastfeeding women and to compensate for lost wages during pregnancy.

There are 25 private hospitals in the city.

According to official statistics, during the 2024-25 period (April to January), Tiruchi’s MMR was 26.5 per 1,000 live cases. The city recorded two deaths in total. During the period ending 2024-25, TMR was 9.5 per 1,000 live births.

Health officials reported significant improvements in maternal and infant hygiene indicators last year. Efforts to ensure regular check-ups and care during pregnancy and to raise awareness among qualified women about the program and its benefits.

“By providing financial assistance and nutritional support, we ensure that pregnant and new mothers have the resources they need to stay healthy. Measures are being taken to conduct ongoing monitoring through mother and child health centers,” said city health official M. Vijay Chandran.
