West Bengal police form sit down to investigate Merhidabad violence

Kolkata: West Bengal police have formed a special investigation team (SIT) of nine members to investigate the recent violence in the Merhidabad area, officials said Wednesday.

The SIT includes another police chief (intelligence department), two deputy directors – one from the Counter-Insurgency Force (CIF), and another from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) – five inspectors (including CID and one CID and a Traffic Police), and the head of Cyber​​ Crime Police Station under Sundarban Police Conteres.

Violence against the new WAQF law that broke out last week in the Mershidabad area killed at least three people.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Minority Council Chairman Ahmed Hassan Imran condemned the violence on Wednesday, saying: “Mamata Banerjee said we should go to Delhi and hold protests and hold protests there (violation of the WAQF Amendment) (She also protested against TMC MPS. Mamata Banerjee said this should not be investigated.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met a Muslim pastor in Kolkata. During the meeting with religious leaders, CM Banerjee announced a 1 million rupees compensation to the families of those who died in the violence in Merhidabad.

She also said she would ask the chief secretary to submit a report on this.

Violence broke out in Muhidabad during the protests of the Muslim community against the WAQF Amendment on April 11. The protests turned violent, killing two fathers and injured several others and causing widespread property damage. A man was also killed in police shooting.

After the violence, the Union’s Ministry of Interior deployed nearly nine companies, at least 900 people in border security forces in Murshidabad. Of the nine companies, 300 BSF personnel are available locally, and other companies are provided at the request of the state government.

Police said 150 people have been arrested so far in the violence in Murshidabad and sufficient police forces have been deployed in other affected areas of Samserganj, Dhuliyan and Murshidabad.

On Monday, West Bengal police said the situation in areas where violence suffered has returned to normal. “It’s normal now. Everyone is safe,” said Suppratim Sarkar’s other police director general in South Bangladesh. “CRPF, state police and joint forces were deployed. West Bengal police themselves attended the Samserganj Police Station. We asked everyone not to make any rumors. We opened a control room. Anyone facing any problem can contact us at any time.”
