“We’ve been stupid and helpless, but no longer”: Trump says China has suffered a bigger blow in the tariff war | World News

Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Saturday that China faces greater losses than the United States in the trade war caused by tariffs imposed during his administration.
“China’s blow is much worse than the United States,” Trump wrote in The Society of Truth. “Their treatment of us and many other countries is unsustainable. We have always been stupid and helpless ‘whip positions’, but no longer.”
Trump’s comments raised concerns about a global economic slowdown the day after U.S. stock markets plummeted. Still, Trump defended his administration’s strong stance on trade, saying it was necessary to protect American workers and bring back investment.
He added: “We are bringing back unprecedented jobs and businesses. There are already more than $5 trillion in investments, and it’s going to go up quickly! It’s an economic revolution and we’re going to win. It’s not easy, but the end result will be historic. We’re going to make America great again.”
Trade tensions escalated this week after China announced new tariffs on U.S. goods. Starting April 10, Beijing will impose an additional 34% tax on all U.S. imports above existing interest rates. The decision was confirmed by the Ministry of Finance of China.
In response to US tariffs, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said it will continue to take strong measures to protect its interests. “The United States should stop using tariffs to curb China’s economy and trade and stop undermining the legitimate right to development of the Chinese people,” the ministry said.
Trump has increased tariffs on Chinese goods by 34%, and total tariffs on Chinese imports have increased to 54% this year. These moves are part of a broader trade measure targeting multiple U.S. trading partners.
