India – Pakistan War: Pakistan fired fire in India, including hundreds of Turkish-made drones in India, including several armed drones targeting civilians, Indian troops said Friday. However, the Army confirmed that all 400-500 drones were neutralized using dynamic and non-motor means. The drone used in Pakistan is a Songar drone made by Turkish defense company Asisguard and was put into operation in 2020.
What is a Songar drone?
Songar, developed by Turkish defense company Asisguard, is the first armed drone produced nationwide to be incorporated into the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) stock. In a significant advancement, Songar has now successfully incorporated into unmanned 4×4 military land vehicles, thus enhancing the operational capabilities of ground forces. The integration provides excellent strike power for the vehicle and has the ability to autonomously detect and disrupt threats during safe operation.
The rotor rotation width of the drone is 140 cm and supports a maximum take-off weight of 45 kg. Without any payload, it can run for up to 35 minutes. It is designed as a portable unmanned aerial system (UAS), which can transmit real-time video and can operate effectively within a radius of 5 kilometers. The drone is able to reach a height of 3,000 meters above the average sea level and 300 meters above the ground.
Songar drones are equipped with automatic machine guns and grenade launchers, allowing military vehicles to identify targets from the air and conduct long-range armed interventions. It is designed to operate around the clock and is always on guard to address asymmetric threats and operate effectively day and night. Its autonomous takeoff and landing capabilities ensure quick responses in dynamic combat scenarios.
Songar has a 10km operating range and supports real-time image transmission, making it suitable for a variety of critical tasks. These include target area surveillance, threat neutralization, post-MASISS damage assessment, and coordinated attacks performed using single or multiple drones. It provides tactical advantages such as delivering a lot of fire from the air to an ambush or potential threat, and can also act as an offensive role if necessary.
